So, my PC is infected, I'm working on fixing it but my last ditch effort will be to reload/reformat Windows XP if I have to. I have Windows XP Home and it's a Dell PC. I don't have a CD but I have a product key. What's the best way to do this?

Also, my PC is infected by braviax.exe, I'm working on deleting the files and registry keys but it's defeating me since I can't run any AV programs to get rid of it, so I'm asking about this in case I absolutely have to end up doing it.

P.S. I can get my hands on a Windows XP Pro CD, I believe it's an install CD not upgrade CD, would I be able to use my product key for Windows XP Home on this? The answer is probably no but I thought I would ask.

If XP Home came installed on your PC, then this should work: http://support.dell.com/suppor...cid=181316

I don't think the XP Pro CD will work since you have a product key for XP Home.

Great suggestion Bartman! Tried to 'Use Windows XP Files & Settings Transfer Wizard To Backup Files & Data'. Alas, it would not allow me to back it up. I can click on it but it all just disappears. I know this is due to that dastardly braviax.exe.

But I appreciate the reply on not being able to use XP Pro CD. So sad but an answer it is. Anyway to allow it to transfer my files and settings in registry? Again, grasping at straws, any other ideas? Because I obviously don't have any? Or am I just SOL? (Please excuse my language,but it seems highly applicable to my situation at this time).
